Unknown Animal Caught on Game Camera
Occasionally my game camera will photograph a critter that leaves me pondering as to what it might be. Sometimes only small part of the animal will be captured, within the confines of the frame, making identification difficult. In these situations, it takes a careful eye to decipher exactly what kind of fur bearer is sneaking by. Care to take a guess on the animal in the photo below?

Well I'm noted for for my lack of knowledge regarding animal recognition, especially critters on tother side of the pond. Having said that it looks as you've caught the rear end of the animal (unless it's hair is flowing against the normal rub)so that suggests to me the shape of a tail curling up on the left of the critter. To me it's dog or such like but without a dead shot I'm stumped.
ReplyDeletejohn
It's raccoon!
ReplyDelete(And if you get it for a hat can, I have the uknowwhat for a necklace? lol!)
Looks like a bear to me.
ReplyDeleteHmmm.. Scale is tough but I would lean toward a large house cat or perhaps a Fisher but the tip of the ear seems wrong for that.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess a wild bore, or like John, maybe a dog? I think the hair looks course like a hog. Or an ant eater? Do they have those in Maine? (lol) I hope you're going to tell us that you did identify it??
ReplyDeleteWhat is it?
ReplyDeleteI'm dyin' to know.
My guess is a Wild Boar!

I'm guessing a Black Bear.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking it's a dog facing uphill with its nose buried in the leaves and grass. It looks too long-legged to be a neighbor's pig, which is about the only other thing it reminds me of.
ReplyDeleteI chose to be realistic about this and looked down at your previous post about the deer caught on camera. From that I deduced that the animal in the photo isn't very large and then was able to notice rings through the vegetation. You have a raccoon there so please send me my free hunt.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for dropping a comment!
ReplyDeleteAND the winner is . . . drum roll please . . . Raccoon!
*Note I have added an enhanced photo to the original post.
