New Years Eve Bobcat

I wanted to share a few pictures of a male bobcat I shot this morning at approximately 8:30 AM using my new Christmas present the Fox Pro Spitfire electronic game call. The bobcat weighed approximately 30 lbs and was a little more than 3 feet long from the tip of his nose to the end of his tail. I had been using the "raspy woodpecker" on the 3-4 volume level when about an hour later he came slowly slinking in through the underbrush. One shot of 125 grain Remington core lokt from my XL7 Marlin in Springfield .30-06 dropped him cold. Taking him to the taxidermist tomorrow for a full body mount . . . HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  1. Awesome, and I appreciate being number two on your calling list after your dad but before your brother.

  3. DDH, As I lay here nursing my after New Years Eve headache I feel I have to set the record straight before a family feud ensues. You were issued notification second due to bros inability to answer said cell phone in a time efficient manner. So ultimately you were second to receive notification and third to be called. Phew, I am glad I got that straightened out! :) HAPPY NEW YEAR my brother from another mother!

  6. YL&S, Thanks for taking the time to comment.

When I tagged the bobcat the warden mentioned that the cat numbers are high! Keep at it and your time invested will eventually connect you with a cat! Good luck!

  9. Wow...that's a nice cat Rabid Outdoorsman, Congratulations!
I had to put one down a couple of years ago for stealing hens. It didn't cross my mind at the time to have it mounted... I gave it to the local game ranger. I'll save the next one. :)

  12. RK, that rifle sure is a shooter. Unfortunately 30-06 is a bit much for a cat. Good thing I have an excellent taxidermist on speed dial! Thinking of ordering the TC Venture Predator in .243 with my Christmas $$.

  17. SB, They say opinions are like arseholes . . . everyone has one. I firmly believe that everyone is entitled to his or her opinions and if you post a comment and at least have enough nads not to post anonymously, I believe I should post it.

Now with that said, I think a little life lesson for you to remember is that if you want people to value your opinion or for that matter respect you in any way, you need to learn that name calling ended for most grown-ups in 8th grade.

Sticks and stones buddy . . . learn to formulate a well constructed argument, come back and voice a strong opinion (based on data and facts) and I might consider you someone worth listening to.
